Aksaya Ghetheeswaran

Undergraduate Student Volunteer

Aksaya is currently completing her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences at Wilfrid Laurier University, with an aspiration to complete minors in both Psychology and English. Her academic interests vary from health access equality, Indigenous health, minority and refugee mental health, and human nutrition.

Aksaya is continuously exploring the vast field of undergraduate research through the study of topics such as fish reproduction toxicology and racism within the Canadian healthcare system. Moreover, she has also had the pleasure of working alongside many labs at Laurier as a research volunteer and assistant including Dr. Kim Roberts’ Child Memory Lab and Dr. Deborah MacLatchy’s fish labs.

In the foreseeable future, Aksaya wishes to complete a fourth-year undergraduate thesis project exploring intergenerational trauma and mental health among refugee populations in Ontario, as well as pursue a Masters in Public Health or a Masters in Science after completing her undergraduate studies. The goal is to work as a clinical psychiatrist to help bridge the gap in minority health access within Canada.
